My students all love these exercises, some asking to do them again and again.</div><div>This week I feel my lady made great strides as we sat, side by side, I was mixing from my palette, she was mixing from hers. I really enjoy mixing muted tones .</div><div>Next week we will be using palettes knives as well as brushes on a small seascape. I do love teaching what I know!<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinqcHz0o62uM2-ktKycoaVi0uXIWYPZUnEuVWTYJHxUyUJI1Hc87Xvm1vwAIOUgz1qnuCc129rgvGk7qBNOWFM36LatJ0vbIg494k5U6OlcV4-MNJBqoRAqSRRbaxdCVu_J1LPacvBNR8/s640/blogger-image--1797323676.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinqcHz0o62uM2-ktKycoaVi0uXIWYPZUnEuVWTYJHxUyUJI1Hc87Xvm1vwAIOUgz1qnuCc129rgvGk7qBNOWFM36LatJ0vbIg494k5U6OlcV4-MNJBqoRAqSRRbaxdCVu_J1LPacvBNR8/s640/blogger-image--1797323676.jpg"></a></div></div></div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00101379986107116243noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7694312116015139296.post-43816902375205650902016-08-16T12:20:00.001+01:002016-08-16T12:20:37.491+01:00Hiatus!It's been nearly four months since I posted on my blog....I do feel ashamed to have left it so long.<div>It's been a busy summer, I am happy to say, my painting mojo came back....a health issue is now resolved, my mind at rest.</div><div>I have been using this year as a year to experiment and I have , not dramatically so, but I can say I have progressed in some aspects!</div><div>I have been painting with acrylics......painting boats, I am loving this medium but only after purchasing more heavy bodied paints. I missed the meatiness of oil paint.</div><div>I love how I can glaze with acrylics, place it on thickly too, how quickly it dries ( that used to be the thing that stopped me from using them)...it is amazing how if you just allow yourself to relax and be open minded , where it can all take you!</div><div>I won't leave it so long till my next post....I will open up about another little bit of experimenting I have been doing<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1rBIa3yRNVPAsB8gtQzWnhb3-lIrZnCKUkj_mwruUSHzfZv8109KIu2h1J1n814M-Qpkvk8MMr9WAQZWkdfJ9yOweouOyCCm0DC52eFNjuyc6lIe1LLmT7jYER91uIMoQFhOheizFngU/s640/blogger-image--1374386429.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1rBIa3yRNVPAsB8gtQzWnhb3-lIrZnCKUkj_mwruUSHzfZv8109KIu2h1J1n814M-Qpkvk8MMr9WAQZWkdfJ9yOweouOyCCm0DC52eFNjuyc6lIe1LLmT7jYER91uIMoQFhOheizFngU/s640/blogger-image--1374386429.jpg"></a></div></div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00101379986107116243noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7694312116015139296.post-62411793422943584232016-04-22T14:44:00.001+01:002016-04-22T14:44:08.305+01:00Feel the Need in Me!Feel the need in me....I'm singing this my head! This year, the year I promised myself, I would NOT paint flowers, this is the year of experimentation ......I just had to .....I needed to.....paint flowers!<div>I've never stopped peering in the florists window, just checking what they had in stock.</div><div>Everyone who knows me, knows I love the colour " magenta", so I really couldn't walk past these chrysanthemums!</div><div>I had a long narrow prepared board, larger than I normally paint and it just felt right for this painting!</div><div>I've had two days at it now and have decided to have a break and come back after the weekend and see how much I want to add or change. <div>Lighting has been an issue, even though it is basically a light space, with roof window and a large bay window, there are places , under the sloping roof, where it can be challenging to sit and paint! I'm conscious of my students comfort and have clamped my IKEA bendy lamps to table easels etc. The rep for the building, offered me some slightly larger clamp lamps, with a bit more power. </div><div> Hubbie got roped in to fix a clamping rail to the wall, to hold these lights. This morning we had our first class with the new lighting. I pushed the three large tables together and have the lights shining down on them. </div><div>The new system seems to work for most of the students, it needs tweeked a little , but overall I'm pleased with the result! I have portrait and life drawing workshops coming up this summer, so I need to have great lighting for those too.</div><div>I've been drawing and painting hares for a little while , experimenting with mediums and supports. The last couple I used acrylic inks initially. Number one, I roughly rendered the basic hare shape with yellow and orange/ red, then did a pencil drawing over the top. Number two, I literally splashed around with the yellow acrylic ink, then some sepia ink. The yellow dripped though the sepia, I then drew the hare with a sharpie marker pen. I had a fun morning! </div><div>In the afternoon, a group of French tourists, came to see my studio and hear me talk about my work I don't speak French , luckily, Helen , the lady in charge could translate for me! They left a bottle of French perfume as gifts for Lizzie and I. Lizzie is a willow artist, who has a studio downstairs - she organised the visit.</div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-M2IEj2N5UOYdLgdgARGpOAmSGE6nnpukGN8FPoxpOgASOX-nvdtNYeA8iW1OF1JHK_GvRPwm13s4mRYdX5kiJ6SqvcytGdMTNRym1T64tdmPyT7e-X6jrN3rP6qYXocRH7nYHNEmDfI/s640/blogger-image--1529825727.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-M2IEj2N5UOYdLgdgARGpOAmSGE6nnpukGN8FPoxpOgASOX-nvdtNYeA8iW1OF1JHK_GvRPwm13s4mRYdX5kiJ6SqvcytGdMTNRym1T64tdmPyT7e-X6jrN3rP6qYXocRH7nYHNEmDfI/s640/blogger-image--1529825727.jpg"></a><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-M2IEj2N5UOYdLgdgARGpOAmSGE6nnpukGN8FPoxpOgASOX-nvdtNYeA8iW1OF1JHK_GvRPwm13s4mRYdX5kiJ6SqvcytGdMTNRym1T64tdmPyT7e-X6jrN3rP6qYXocRH7nYHNEmDfI/s640/blogger-image--1529825727.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPbBxa3CflSEpk_S6ori5KG0RtnJUnyt3n0s9I3yqisc4XEV3eeK8B3SxtsAG7krQVfRzbfRJYToX4bVZPVjEptjoVPqmJ6ObWEGXvJHOOhsa_6EatsDXcDnj3Gi_911wWCM0Dyf5YCjc/s640/blogger-image-1958086185.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPbBxa3CflSEpk_S6ori5KG0RtnJUnyt3n0s9I3yqisc4XEV3eeK8B3SxtsAG7krQVfRzbfRJYToX4bVZPVjEptjoVPqmJ6ObWEGXvJHOOhsa_6EatsDXcDnj3Gi_911wWCM0Dyf5YCjc/s640/blogger-image-1958086185.jpg"></a></div></div><br></div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00101379986107116243noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7694312116015139296.post-13471051153274538632016-02-18T18:26:00.003+00:002016-03-06T13:16:27.955+00:00Life Drawing and Summer Workshops<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">I h<span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">ave spent the winter running two life drawing groups, all untutored. Both groups are held on a Wednesday this winter, thankfully. So no need to set up fourteen easels, chairs, two large plinths out two days! I set up in the afternoon for the 3pm group and leave everything in place for the 7pm group!</span></div>
I do find it very difficult to relax completely whilst drawing from the model, I'm always thinking about the next pose, putting the kettle on for the break, etc etc.<br><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">This summer I have a whole programme of tutored workshops, including beginners life drawing , being held in my new studio. They are so luscious and full of pure pigment and when I use them, they bring back happy memories of the artists I met across there, sadly one no longer with us.</div><div>I use Unison pastels too, made very near where I live. All you artists in the US are so lucky, the range of gorgeous pastels is fantastic plus the variety of paper available is vast. I envy you all! I wish we could get Kitty Wallis paper here in the UK</div><div>I now find I need my pastel pencils.......where are they? In my old studio of course!</div><div>My colour choices are in the dish on the left...now to get started, it's been a while.....<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyns59GxEygSOhVw2cVU9ZhvJwSnxz_5vPa_8tQdJcDcFn3ZOpnZjWDmoC88UQ2f0b2a0aiE-6iCJJpwukJikdLy8NZ5exYDd2mqvKJgjD8pDbkoKiC2CD_2ENIPr01zL5E6rLzsahPpc/s640/blogger-image-699413827.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyns59GxEygSOhVw2cVU9ZhvJwSnxz_5vPa_8tQdJcDcFn3ZOpnZjWDmoC88UQ2f0b2a0aiE-6iCJJpwukJikdLy8NZ5exYDd2mqvKJgjD8pDbkoKiC2CD_2ENIPr01zL5E6rLzsahPpc/s640/blogger-image-699413827.jpg"></a></div></div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00101379986107116243noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7694312116015139296.post-784160782709716602016-02-01T20:51:00.000+00:002016-02-01T20:51:17.601+00:002016 Workshops and Studio<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I spent last week painting in my new studio, I had great fun, just experimenting. It has taken a good month to feel settled. I am still bringing the odd item from my shedio, my hand mirror, for instance, crucial, especially painting portraits. It is amazing how you can work on a piece for hours and think you have captured exactly what you intended but a quick look at it through the mirror and the mistakes are glaringly obvious! It is a very useful piece of kit!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I have a new venue for my first workshop of 2016, Glentrool Gallery and Craft Shop, my tried and tested , "Painting in a Day" one day oil painting. If you live in the area, why not give it a go!</span><br />

I love portraits and usually use pastels but I used my oils this year and had so much fun!</span><br>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I do find the Christmas deadline very stressful, every year I tell myself, this year will be different.....but it never works out that way!</span><br>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The little boy came to see me with his Granny and I took a lot of photos! I also had the opportunity to gain an insight into his personality. I was commissioned to paint his cousin too. These boys are the same age but couldn't look or act more different!</span><br>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Usually with childrens' portraits, I am working from the client's photos. I found with me taking the photos, meeting the little ones, I learnt so much more and it all helped me when I was painting!<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnn-5x219vymr0hBhvOs_BWk4J-pvSFDqpHwuhd3LJAFH4sfIvrrTSdIlmoo6q_jUJrgKydZgZIIVh2LnbbbSrg9eDxvZ2Uo_HQopO9LZ_f4xnyBoldJuZJn1IDAw8DS6kkJyR-eYn9cY/s640/blogger-image-1290993890.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnn-5x219vymr0hBhvOs_BWk4J-pvSFDqpHwuhd3LJAFH4sfIvrrTSdIlmoo6q_jUJrgKydZgZIIVh2LnbbbSrg9eDxvZ2Uo_HQopO9LZ_f4xnyBoldJuZJn1IDAw8DS6kkJyR-eYn9cY/s640/blogger-image-1290993890.jpg"></a></div></span>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00101379986107116243noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7694312116015139296.post-61374623559550330502016-01-02T17:58:00.001+00:002016-01-02T17:58:41.315+00:00January 2016 Classes<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The new term begins in less than a week, just a few spaces left. I got the keys before Christmas but having had a horrible virus, that's still clinging on, it's taking me a while to move my stuff in! The studio is at the top of the building too, so I have a lot of stairs to climb with each car load!<div>Deciding what to move, what to keep in my garden studio, has been long drawn! I have had feelings of guilt on moving from my lovely shedio, who has served me well.</div><div>In the end, I decided all drawing and paint related items were moving downtown. My shedio will be my printing workshop and also any framing etc can now be comfortably carried out in the space left. I can do all the messy preparation of boards etc in there too.</div><div>I have been renting a space each week for my classes but can now hold them in the new studio. I'm planning small workshops, up to six people and hope to get a bit of private life drawing going on there too, sharing the model with maybe a couple of other artists, spreading the cost.</div><div>I hope to keep you abreast of it all, as it unfolds in 2016</div><div>Happy New Year to you all xx<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgX5XJmrMIR1OK9mAjnS65fWNExnwAZNhgFEERyQnNWWSiKuy4jG_aax4YAMCbctm785YW6RaEITkR49thUCFijRyLmH-hI6EhtX5y1DIfHyz3UX1t7YDwIbRDNVxdOpJqQwTw5-Epxe4U/s640/blogger-image--828406496.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgX5XJmrMIR1OK9mAjnS65fWNExnwAZNhgFEERyQnNWWSiKuy4jG_aax4YAMCbctm785YW6RaEITkR49thUCFijRyLmH-hI6EhtX5y1DIfHyz3UX1t7YDwIbRDNVxdOpJqQwTw5-Epxe4U/s640/blogger-image--828406496.jpg"></a><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgX5XJmrMIR1OK9mAjnS65fWNExnwAZNhgFEERyQnNWWSiKuy4jG_aax4YAMCbctm785YW6RaEITkR49thUCFijRyLmH-hI6EhtX5y1DIfHyz3UX1t7YDwIbRDNVxdOpJqQwTw5-Epxe4U/s640/blogger-image--828406496.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9PeUHGPn7Z4OAsW9PYDr6nOjj9Y5qbO79NSZwsYVEGLCfYkmfPDCWMk1p2p2h4lqt19pugQG50MfA73_9F2Fm4xwIAhz718RLeenyc2np1zBj__ypCQuBgQUNdZIuy4rv4LJpt6vrYyc/s640/blogger-image--456518139.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9PeUHGPn7Z4OAsW9PYDr6nOjj9Y5qbO79NSZwsYVEGLCfYkmfPDCWMk1p2p2h4lqt19pugQG50MfA73_9F2Fm4xwIAhz718RLeenyc2np1zBj__ypCQuBgQUNdZIuy4rv4LJpt6vrYyc/s640/blogger-image--456518139.jpg"></a></div></div></div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00101379986107116243noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7694312116015139296.post-5276044353916655422015-12-04T20:35:00.001+00:002015-12-04T20:39:48.413+00:00Teaching Drawing and PaintingAs I prepare for every new term, I stress about how I will make the classes interesting, challenging not frightening. I need to be encouraging, when the students falter, guiding them on their artistic journey, trying to not push them too hard.<br />
<div>
Then I worry , will my regulars keep signing up, will there be enough interest for me to make a living, will I be working for nothing, by the time I have paid the rent etc, how can I draw in new students......... </div>
<div>
Then suddenly, it's the end of term , it has all went swimmingly!</div>
<div>
Today was the last day of term, of 2015s classes, students arrived laden with homemade goodies, they painted up a storm!</div>
<div>
Here's to 2016.........fingers crossed it all goes well!<br />

I seldom do any work as I am chatting far too much! This time I went prepared to start to sketch out my ideas. I completed the design on Friday evening, cut the Lino on Saturday evening and tonight I started printing........boy, it's a slow process!</div><div>I'm lucky enough to have shared ownership of an old bookpress or it probably would have taken even longer to print.</div><div>I am pleased with the outcome, they are not particularly intricate, but based on my skill set , I'm happy with the result, I hope my family and friends will like them too!<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLlWbWYCFJ-OgTddKGdziIISuyV4Sw0sGyiTBaAhyphenhyphenQO2-oUQFwoDSph1pTd5X93X6oBwE2HN0FgrqXkoe9QPWaTFIqW6rVASB3w0REDMPWw-6hpNzhyphenhyphent56jVKC0FhbUFJ4nNP8C_He4XA/s640/blogger-image--89318169.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLlWbWYCFJ-OgTddKGdziIISuyV4Sw0sGyiTBaAhyphenhyphenQO2-oUQFwoDSph1pTd5X93X6oBwE2HN0FgrqXkoe9QPWaTFIqW6rVASB3w0REDMPWw-6hpNzhyphenhyphent56jVKC0FhbUFJ4nNP8C_He4XA/s640/blogger-image--89318169.jpg"></a></div></div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00101379986107116243noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7694312116015139296.post-63824434780497822352015-10-20T18:47:00.001+01:002015-11-20T22:07:21.110+00:00Fabric Printing in Style<br><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbzE6S8US2q-zn-YTjuzlV2pR0WWL6G-D4Jbx8D7q6ZAKL3Cz1LOUaQ8mFMhmVWZTsqhyphenhyphenuTnf8d5Ca6toCc4s9miZfOiJuSSxb2cR7jbxx0NuNDgw23dfEHyFXRlfGNglv9dLi07lYdGM/s640/blogger-image-1620616662.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbzE6S8US2q-zn-YTjuzlV2pR0WWL6G-D4Jbx8D7q6ZAKL3Cz1LOUaQ8mFMhmVWZTsqhyphenhyphenuTnf8d5Ca6toCc4s9miZfOiJuSSxb2cR7jbxx0NuNDgw23dfEHyFXRlfGNglv9dLi07lYdGM/s640/blogger-image-1620616662.jpg"></a></div>Mid September I completed an enlightening and inspiring printing workshop with renounced fabric printer Jenny Stringer.<div>Drawing up outside her beautiful old Manor House in the heart of the Cotswolds, I felt a little intimidated by its grandeur. Jenny's welcome and the homely interior, soon calmed my first day nerves! The homemade shortbread helped too!</div><div>Jenny's studio is up in the attic rooms, the biggest room is the working studio, one tiny room off to the side , holds all her Lino plates, neatly filed away and clearly labelled, in the recycled wooden tomato boxes. A second room to the back is set out like a little showroom, printed fabric, cushions, wallpapers, pillowcases and remnants, displayed in old baskets, draped over an old baby's cot.</div><div>In a little recess , off the main studio, hang samples of Jenny's work.</div><div>I have always been interested in printing on fabric, the photo shows my design, first draught.<br><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyBf6HFlA7HEM_uhdhCrTbb1MCv-rRpDXPhvd2js47e0D2Q60yPtUvbTT8t7Ki_duHrYiuY8C7aLav3vbqnYIdqaB_VDsigtdWPwZprm-XlshNfO9wiV5Y85TKEO0t32aQYHbbEK37FtY/s640/blogger-image--1841745913.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyBf6HFlA7HEM_uhdhCrTbb1MCv-rRpDXPhvd2js47e0D2Q60yPtUvbTT8t7Ki_duHrYiuY8C7aLav3vbqnYIdqaB_VDsigtdWPwZprm-XlshNfO9wiV5Y85TKEO0t32aQYHbbEK37FtY/s640/blogger-image--1841745913.jpg"></a></div><br></div></div><div> </div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00101379986107116243noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7694312116015139296.post-80002301320192677832015-10-05T07:33:00.001+01:002015-10-05T07:33:32.053+01:00Linocut PreparationsIt's been many weeks since I've been in the studio, working. I've tidied up and prepared for my new teaching term but haven't been producing any art!<div>Yesterday I spent the day drawing and placing, drawing and erasing, planning a new Linocut design. I love Nasturtiums, which is just as well because there isn't much else in my garden at this time. I love the shapes, how they twist and trail and of course, the yummy colours of the flowers, from creamy yellows through to the darkest reds, with all the vibrant shades in between.</div><div>I am heading away next week to study with a printer who specialises on printing on fabric. I have tried a few things in my studio but my lack of knowledge produced disappointing results. Luckily I have found a wonderful artist who lives near my daughter, who designs fabric and wallpapers! </div><div>I'm happy now the design is complete......all set for next week...I will keep you posted!<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxcrqfrjDg0GWF_i9FgFlDIC3X89vBRU4_2zGVD1CUUO0nFO9wNr4fIUvFsWcsYvawM_bQ1TvlzzHV-PiQc5SsBeoH7VJKUN6gmXfTO6oRv9kgIyN-Izdeuir9WXQx8QGRj3C2qZT5bRc/s640/blogger-image-166909494.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxcrqfrjDg0GWF_i9FgFlDIC3X89vBRU4_2zGVD1CUUO0nFO9wNr4fIUvFsWcsYvawM_bQ1TvlzzHV-PiQc5SsBeoH7VJKUN6gmXfTO6oRv9kgIyN-Izdeuir9WXQx8QGRj3C2qZT5bRc/s640/blogger-image-166909494.jpg"></a></div></div><div><br></div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00101379986107116243noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7694312116015139296.post-34519999763955984092015-09-23T08:25:00.001+01:002015-09-23T08:25:25.777+01:00Last Open Studio of the SeasonI've flying off to the hairdressers this morning then rushing back to open my studio this afternoon. I'm not one for using photos...normally.</div><div>My open studio group exhibition started this week too, a dear friend went a long to hang my work. Social media can be a great thing, I have been able to see how the gallery looks, filled with the eight artists work. The gardens at Broughton House still looking gorgeous, a feast for the eyes, though there was a bit of nose feasting going on too, heady scents abound!<div>This has been my second year working in the beautiful grounds of Broughton House, Kirkcudbright, the former home of artist EAHornel. Every month, locals, tourists and fellow artists joined me and every month the sun has shone on us. I had six lovely ladies sign up to paint a little still life in a day, using Winsor and Newtons Artisan water mixable oils!<div>I spent the day before, cooking and baking workshop lunch and goodies, set up the hall in the evening with just last minute things to do this morning before my students arrived.</div><div>As usually happens when people share the same interests, the girls got on famously. </div><div>I decided , this time. to do my demo in stages and I think that worked well, especially as colour mixing with a limited palette, was relatively new to about half the group. So I talked them through, as I mixed my colours, you could hear a pin drop! Then they started mixing. I then helped them to place their still life on their boards.</div><div>Lunchtime - already! There was great hilarity at the table, fun stories, daft stories and getting to know each other stories!</div><div>I did another demo, paint application, how to paint glass....the girls picked it up very quickly! </div><div>As we reached the tricky bits, I decided we should have a break, coffee and homemade cake, more laughs round the table!</div><div>They had a finished piece of work each at the end of the day, so proud of them all!<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqNv26JrhX6eSIF6jrLySSK-5oUG8HfR27MtE0FOQH4pAT9L5mvoBzqKdVeGcyGV_1B3K5dIfISetb7EY6u0rEwuIiXHxHd7tVhmeqJeyb7nxR56QttiTiZj-SvrOYadhkfXzcT1QNKhk/s640/blogger-image-2116233854.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqNv26JrhX6eSIF6jrLySSK-5oUG8HfR27MtE0FOQH4pAT9L5mvoBzqKdVeGcyGV_1B3K5dIfISetb7EY6u0rEwuIiXHxHd7tVhmeqJeyb7nxR56QttiTiZj-SvrOYadhkfXzcT1QNKhk/s640/blogger-image-2116233854.jpg"></a></div></div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00101379986107116243noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7694312116015139296.post-31283225023118633482015-08-08T16:54:00.001+01:002015-08-10T07:08:34.649+01:00Every Picture Tells a Story<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I have painted these little shoes many times throughout my painting years. my daughter's first pair of shoes. They are well worn, the colour scuffed from the toes, where she tripped, often, in her hurry to be doing whatever her older brother was involved in at the time. The little t-bar creased where her little chubby feet had grown and spread, ready to move onto a bigger size.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Over the years, I drew them before I contemplated colour in my work. I rendered them in pencil, then charcoal.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Sometime later, I produced a pastel painting on canson paper. When I began using sanded paper, I found I could lay so many more layers down, loving the thickness of the medium.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">When I first painted in oils, I mixed my reds as best I could at the time. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This latest rendering of the little red toddler's shoes, in a way, shows where I am now, comfortable with colour mixing, loving painting with oils.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I love this little painting.......it can be seen hanging upstairs in Kirkcudbright Town Hall till the end of the month.....yes, it is for sale and I don't mind selling it. I have the orginal footwear which I am sure I will paint again, sometime in the future.</span><br />

Six artists and crafters, we have had lots of sales, lots of visitors and lots of laughs!<br />
<div>
One more day to go, if any of you are in the area, please pop in to see us at our garden venue, down a winding cobbled close. At the opening for the garden two old fashioned roses have been intoxicating us with their delicious scent. I love our little town with its quirky back gardens and higglety pigglety lay outs.</div>

Here are the gang I've spent the last few days with!<br />

Down the cobbled close decorated with many coloured fish (the theme of the trail), some caught in nets, others drifting freely!<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidIyZzDtpSqsUPsJZnNCjAsiDwbohYgBpU0Kf3oKJaI19qakdLS4w5RG4d-qf2j2eEWlIFLRgvfxUpCnbPkzlSdB9tg7qnL37PsDI48UIwgFk6SdReUyebcbjTq9_mQ5GN0ZaMhJA4vHo/s640/blogger-image-1548775185.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidIyZzDtpSqsUPsJZnNCjAsiDwbohYgBpU0Kf3oKJaI19qakdLS4w5RG4d-qf2j2eEWlIFLRgvfxUpCnbPkzlSdB9tg7qnL37PsDI48UIwgFk6SdReUyebcbjTq9_mQ5GN0ZaMhJA4vHo/s640/blogger-image-1548775185.jpg"></a>The bottom of the close reveals a beautiful secret garden.! Locals and tourists alike were all taken with our setting. My car is loaded with the tent, the sun is shining, for now. It would be great if it could stay like that till we are finished this afternoon!<div>There are six of us, artists and crafters. </div><div>The close entry is to the right of the Co-op building. Follow the cobbled path to a beautiful secret garden, where we will be showing our wares. I will have some photos soon!<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1tjM5q4jT9DuXHm-FCxsKJeVxQRNN6nAlUQX_dqnN1z-u7cBFcBnsth3EojFzMOzgc0DvP6kSJqE9hJoTzvFFWuaVGjEiHqLaNZkLHCMXdVe5Ocu1-nFCWgE_bf62sUH1bKuAaXSduxU/s640/blogger-image-178311773.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1tjM5q4jT9DuXHm-FCxsKJeVxQRNN6nAlUQX_dqnN1z-u7cBFcBnsth3EojFzMOzgc0DvP6kSJqE9hJoTzvFFWuaVGjEiHqLaNZkLHCMXdVe5Ocu1-nFCWgE_bf62sUH1bKuAaXSduxU/s640/blogger-image-178311773.jpg"></a></div></div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00101379986107116243noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7694312116015139296.post-68930923374623622512015-07-24T22:24:00.001+01:002015-07-24T22:24:23.760+01:00Lemon and LimeAnother painting sold at the Whitehouse Gallery, Kirkcudbright, summer exhibition. This was a new colour combination for me, the blue glass making its first appearance in a painting.<div>I've just completed a commissioned still life, also a first. I hadn't appreciated the difficulties of placing someone's precious items into a pleasing composition. I couldn't add a little something to pep things up as obviously my things have no place in the mix!</div><div><br></div><div>Kirkcudbright Art and Craft Trail commences next Friday 31st July, I have a million and one things to do, to prepare for the four day event. This year I am showing my work , not in my own studio and garden , as in previous years but in my marquee in the centre of town. I'll keep you informed of my progress.....<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSq5wgco70gnIrAWupuYebN06xCUfzUcawCcHpJqMdyZSGVSwxobSllzS3jRRvJ09nHxhyWxBvHyw1LczpYksBfLlFvntcujpvCXTEkTVwvdpjUOTiY-26u5hrqy69IQv_Iva1rkasI24/s640/blogger-image-274346176.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSq5wgco70gnIrAWupuYebN06xCUfzUcawCcHpJqMdyZSGVSwxobSllzS3jRRvJ09nHxhyWxBvHyw1LczpYksBfLlFvntcujpvCXTEkTVwvdpjUOTiY-26u5hrqy69IQv_Iva1rkasI24/s640/blogger-image-274346176.jpg"></a></div></div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00101379986107116243noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7694312116015139296.post-68499789878603737322015-07-17T12:15:00.001+01:002015-07-17T12:15:54.637+01:00Summer Workshop and Ballet<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This painting is for sale and hanging in the Town Hall Kirkcudbright, peruse my new work as you climb the stairs to the main hall</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">These are not my ballet shoes, I didn't have dancing lessons as a child, my parents couldn't afford them but I had a cousin who sang beautifully and attended all sorts of dancing and singing classes. I was green with envy as I watched my Auntie sewing on glittery sequins to Maureen's plain old navy gym knickers, transforming them into a thing of beauty!</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I used to stuff the toes of my sandshoes (plimsoles to non Scots) with cotton wool and whilst holding onto the bathroom door handle, try and stay on my "points,"that being the nearest I got to ever being a ballerina!</span></div>
