Day One - Red Collar Girl

Day one of my 30 paintings in 30 days. This gorgeous girl was waiting to join the dog show at Rozelle in Ayr, one Sunday in late summer.
6"x6" oil on board £100
I thought I would be organised this year and not grappling for subjects each morning.......help....suggestions please!!!!

  1. Love this dog! I think it is hard to paint something black with its subtle value shifts, but you nailed it. I would suggest breaking the challenge into parts and then it doesn't seem so daunting. Maybe 10 days of dogs/animals, 10 days of flowers, 10 days of green. Or you could even break it up further. Anyway, hope this helps and have fun!

  3. Lovely dog! If you're really stuck, you might consider painting the same image but with unusual colors. Or you could do different breeds, or maybe different kinds of pets. Lots of possibility!

  4. Think you should make a series like this one. Terrific painting, Margaret. Will be fun following your 30/30.

    1. I have been going through my dog photos since your reply, might get a couple more out of them! I found my last 30/30 really improved my painting and compositional skills so know it is certainly worth doing, stress or not. Have fun too!
